В 2016 году руководство страны обратило особое внимание на важность предметной области «Технология». 26 февраля и 29 марта 2016 г. в Управлении Президента Российской Федерации по научно-образовательной политике были проведены два совещания по модернизации Всероссийской олимпиады школьников по учебному предмету «Технология». 18 марта 2016 года в Департаменте государственной политики в сфере общего образования Минобрнауки РФ было проведено совещание по модернизации содержания школьного технологического образования. Было принято решение создать рабочую группу по разработке концепций преподавания и изучения предметной области «Технология» и разработке нового содержания олимпиадных заданий Всероссийской олимпиады школьников по технологии и создать Всероссийскую ассоциацию учителей технологии.
